Immigration around the world has been seen as a necessary event. Migrants can be considered to be the western world’s backbone, as most of the unseen work that goes into the maintenance of a country is handled by blue-collared workers. These blue-collared jobs are done by migrants who are in search of better opportunities. Many countries have allowed migrants within their borders to work. Most countries have started denying them entry due to the newborn pandemic. Countries such as America have also denied migrants entry for saving jobs for born citizens of the country.
The way various countries have handled the flow of migrants has brought out various problems with a system that has been put in place to allow immigration to other countries. The very first problem being the increase in the size of the population that has been immigrating and countries still maintaining static immigration quotas. A lot of governments see the allowing of immigrants into one’s country as an unnecessary task and thus have a lot of inbuilt hostility towards immigrants, manifested through their immigration systems.
Republicanism has been a new obstacle to the flow of immigration into other countries, the theory that works presently within a country should have a preference of their own citizens first is at the root of this theory. Governments also fear that changing the demographics of a country is dangerous as it may lead to conflicts with the minority communities. This form of protectionism has always been present but with the new formation of conservative governments popping up in more and more countries this, way of thinking has been given precedence. Most countries also have the ‘Melting-Pot’ theory of integration of migrants where they are expected to blend in, to not make other sociological groups uncomfortable.
However, Not all countries harbor such hostile attitudes towards immigrants, Canada is one of the more immigrant-friendly countries out there. The crux of this article is to say that the main problem with the immigration system that most countries have adopted is functioning on outdated principles and notions. These systems need to be updated as the world goes further into the hands of globalization. Canada understands the importance of immigration and the impact that their country has felt after the pandemic slowed down the flow of immigrants into other countries. With this realization, Canada has come out various immigrant-friendly legislation which attracts more and more immigrants by every passing year
