Skilled Workers In Manitoba

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) Skilled Workers in Manitoba pathway invites applicants who have a strong connection to Manitoba through ongoing employment as well as have all the necessary skills, education, and training, work experience, and official language proficiency to make an immediate and ongoing contribution to the Manitoba economy.

Here, ongoing employment means that a Manitoba company has offered the applicant a long-term, full-time job after he or she has completed at least six months of continuous full-time employment with that company as a temporary foreign worker or international student working graduate.

Note: In this pathway, skilled workers are not subject to a points-based assessment.

This stream has two categories i.e.

  • Temporary Foreign Workers, and
  • International Student Working Graduates

QUALIFYING EMPLOYMENT

  • Employer must be incorporated or registered by or under an act of the legislature of a province or the Parliament of Canada, and must be operating as a business with a production capabilities, plant, or place of business in Manitoba.
  • Employers must demonstrate to the MPNP that they are a well-established business capable of providing a full-time and long-term employment in Manitoba.

IMPORTANT NOTE

  • Any periods of self-employment, unauthorized work, or employment during which the applicant was enrolled in full-time study (for example, work experience gained on a co-op permit) will not be counted toward the qualifying work experience in Manitoba.
  • Self-employed individuals, business owners, owner-operators, and individuals providing services as independent contractors to the business supporting their application are ineligible to apply as skilled workers in Manitoba, and any work experience gained in those capacities in Manitoba will not be considered when calculating the qualifying period of work in the province.
    • TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKERS

If the applicant has been working for a Manitoba employer continuously on a valid work permit as a full-time paid employee for the past six months and has a long-term, full-time job offer, he or she can apply for permanent residence in Manitoba under the same category.

Skilled workers applying on the basis of ongoing employment in Manitoba need to provide documented proof of settlement funds in their name. However, the MPNP will consider the current income of the applicant and, hence, the generally recommended CAD $10,000 in settlement funds is not required.

      Mandatory Requirements

      • The offer of long-term employment must come from the same employer for whom the applicant has been working full-time.
      • The applicant must meet all of the education, licensing, and certification requirements for the job.
      • In order to perform the duties outlined in job description, the applicant must demonstrate proficiency in either English or French.
      • An applicant’s employment ties to Manitoba must be stronger than any ties he or she may have in another province.
      • The applicant must demonstrate his or her intentions and plan to live, work, and settle with family in Manitoba as a permanent resident in a settlement plan.

      INTERNATIONAL STUDENT WORKING GRADUATES

Only graduates from Manitoba’s post-secondary educational institutions are considered in this category. The applicant must have a long-term job offer from a Manitoba employer after at least six months of continuous full-time employment on a valid post-graduation work permit.

      Mandatory Requirements

      • The applicant must have completed an approved education or training program (Language programs are specifically excluded) at a Manitoba public or registered private vocational post-secondary institution.
      • Academic/vocational programs should be full-time and last at least one academic year.
      • The applicant completed his or her program successfully and was awarded a diploma, degree, or certificate.
      • An applicant must have worked for the same employer for at least six months who has offered a permanent (or long-term) full-time position.
      • The applicant should have a valid status in Manitoba, Canada.
      • The applicant’s employment ties to Manitoba must be stronger than any ties to another province.
      • In order to perform the duties outlined in job description, the applicant must demonstrate proficiency in either English or French.
      • In a settlement plan, the applicant must demonstrate his or her intentions and plan to live, work, and settle with family in Manitoba as a permanent resident.
