Who Can Apply for Tasmania State Nomination?

To be eligible for state nomination, it is mandatory for an applicant to meet the minimum eligibility requirements set out by the Department of Home Affairs, which says:

• Not yet turned 45 years of age
• Nominated an occupation on the relevant list of eligible skilled occupations
• A valid and positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation
• At least ‘Competent’ English language proficiency
• At least 65 points on the Department of Home Affairs points test

Tasmania State Nomination Pathways

Eligible applicants can apply for Tasmania state nomination under the following visa categories:

• Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa (Permanent Residency): A permanent residency (PR) visa for skilled workers nominated by the Tasmanian Government. Requires commitment to living and working in Tasmania. Provides access to full Medicare benefits, work rights, and social security.
• Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa: A five-year provisional visa that allows skilled workers to live and work in Tasmania. Provides a pathway to PR through the Subclass 191 Visa after meeting residency and income requirements. Requires a commitment to residing in regional Tasmania.

Subclass 190 Overseas Applicant (Health or Education Sector Job Offer) Pathway

To qualify for Tasmania’s Skilled Migration Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• You must have a health, allied health, or education related skills assessment for an occupation in one of the 3-digit ANZSCO groups below.
• You must have a formal job offer for a job in Tasmania that is closely related to your skills assessed occupation. This means a role within the same ANZSCO 3-digit group as your skills assessment.
• Job offers for School Teachers must be for a position in a Tasmanian school.
• You, or any of your dependents, must not have lived in another Australian state or territory within the last 12 months.
• Your employer must be a well-established business that has been operating in Tasmania for at least the past 12 months.
• You must receive wages and conditions equal to or better than those offered to Australian citizens or permanent residents and at least matching local market rates.
• There must be a genuine and ongoing need for your role and the capacity for the business to sustain your employment.
