Parents or grandparents of individuals living in Canada who have Canadian citizenship or are Permanent Residents of Canada can apply for a Super Visa. Super visas are granted only to the parents or grandparents of the individual if the parent or grandparent has an express letter of interest given to them by their relative living in Canada.
The Super Visa is a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period of up to 10 years. The key difference between the Super Visa and the Visitor Visa is that the Super Visa allows an individual to stay for up to two years at a time in Canada, while a Visitor Visa or Multiple Entry Visa would only have a status period for each entry of six months only.
To be eligible for a Super Visa, the parent or grandparent must first show proof of a relationship with their child or grandchild living in Canada as a citizen or permanent resident. The parent or grandparent must also carry with them a letter given to them by their child or grandchild, stating that their child or grandchild will take care of their livelihood and will also provide financial support to them.
Parents or grandparents must also undergo a mandated medical examination to ensure that they are in a condition to travel to Canada and that they aren’t a risk to other individuals around them. Also, they (parents or grandparents) need to submit proof that comprehensive medical insurance, worth more than or equal to CAD $100,000, has been purchased in the name of the parent or grandparent seeking the super visa.
There is a minimum necessary income required to be eligible to be granted a Super visa. The minimum wage requirement also keeps changing with adherence to the number of individuals a specific family in question has. For example, a family of 7 people will be required to have a minimum income of 58,827 dollars. For family sizes that have upwards of 7 members, the minimum wage requirement will rise by 5,989 dollars for every individual that is added after the 7th member of the family.
To apply for a super visa an individual will firstly need to get their required documents along with a letter of invitation from the child or grandchild who wishes to sponsor them to Canada ready.
• Proof of the grandchild’s financial stability in the country will also be required.
