In March 2022, Canada introduced a special program called the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET). This program allowed people from Ukraine and their close family members to come to Canada as temporary residents for up to three years.
To help with this, Canada opened some temporary visa application centres (VACs) in different European cities like Bratislava, Budapest, Krakow, Prague, and Warsaw. These centres helped process applications for people applying to the CUAET program.
Now, because the CUAET program stopped accepting new applications from overseas on July 15, 2023, there are not as many people going to these VACs. So, most of them will close.
Here is what is happening:
But do not worry if you still need help with visa applications. There are still VACs in Vienna (Austria), and in Lviv and Kyiv (Ukraine) that will keep helping people in those areas.
So, these changes mean that some centres are closing because they are not needed as much anymore, but others will keep on helping people with their visa applications.
