New South Wales has opened its subclass 190 nomination program for 2026-27. In its latest skilled migration newsletter, NSW says the first invitation round is expected in the week commencing 19 October 2026.
The update covers the subclass 190 opening, the first round and a revised NSW Skills List. A further update on the subclass 491 regional list is still pending.
For subclass 190, NSW selects candidates from the SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI) pool. Its published process does not include a separate state Registration of Interest (ROI). Only selected candidates are invited to apply for nomination.
NSW ranks EOIs within eligible ANZSCO unit groups, considering age, English, education, points and skilled work experience. Lodging or amending an EOI earlier does not improve the likelihood of selection. An invitation is not guaranteed.
Yes. NSW includes an offshore category for people who have lived continuously outside Australia for at least six months.
Onshore candidates must either be working in NSW in their nominated occupation in paid employment for at least 20 hours a week, or have lived continuously in NSW for at least six months. These are residency criteria; visa eligibility and a valid skills assessment must also be met.
The subclass 190 list covers ANZSCO unit groups rather than individual job titles. Examples include:
These are examples, not the full list. Your assessed occupation must fall within a listed group and be eligible for subclass 190. Inclusion does not establish priority or predict an invitation.
The Skills List update applies to subclass 190 only. As checked on 15 October 2026, the public subclass 491 page still carries a closure notice. NSW says it will provide a further regional Skills List update when more information is available.
