South Australia has opened a limited onshore Registration of Interest (ROI) intake for people living and working in the state whose current visas expire by 31 January 2027. The announcement, dated 22 October 2026, also confirms that eligible applicants overseas can continue to be selected through SkillSelect.
Last updated: 23 October 2026.
The opening covers applicants already living and working in South Australia who fall within the stated visa-expiry window. It should not be read as an unrestricted opening for every onshore applicant. A current SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI) is required, alongside the relevant occupation and stream criteria.
Offshore candidates do not submit a South Australian ROI. They need an eligible SkillSelect EOI and can receive an invitation directly from that pool. An EOI expresses interest; it is not a nomination application or a visa application.
| Applicant situation | Selection route |
|---|---|
| Living and working in South Australia; visa expires by 31 January 2027 | Current SkillSelect EOI plus the limited onshore ROI intake |
| Living overseas, including India | SkillSelect EOI; no separate South Australian ROI |
The state names building and construction, defence, education, engineering, health and manufacturing as priority sectors. Strongly ranked candidates outside these sectors may also be considered. Working in a priority sector does not itself guarantee selection.
South Australia’s application guidance requires the occupation to be available for the applicant’s relevant stream. Offshore applicants must meet the offshore criteria. The EOI should identify South Australia as the preferred state, and the details used in the nomination process must be supported by documents.
A nomination application follows an invitation. Invited applicants submit through the state’s Apply Portal by the deadline in their invitation email. For an onshore ROI receiving a “Not Invited” decision, the published guidance sets a three-month period before another ROI application can be submitted.
The state currently lists no ROI fee and an application fee of AUD 394 for either subclass 190 or subclass 491 nomination. These are state charges, separate from federal visa application costs. Subclass 190 is permanent; subclass 491 is provisional. State nomination does not decide the federal visa outcome.

Peerless Immigration Services can assess how your occupation, employment, skills assessment and English results fit the relevant nomination pathway. We can help identify gaps between your claimed profile and supporting evidence before an application is prepared. An assessment does not guarantee an invitation, nomination or visa.
