The tourist and hotel business in Alberta was severely impacted by COVID-19, and it is still experiencing a labor shortage that is preventing industry recovery and expansion. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is creating a new immigration stream for tourism and hospitality in order to assist employers in the sector. For newcomers working in the sector, this stream is anticipated to offer a focused and quicker option for permanent residence.
The new stream is being designed by the departments of forestry, parks, and tourism as well as trade, immigration, and multiculturalism. In the upcoming months, more information will be made available. In 2023, this stream will complement the choices made in the priority sector-based Alberta Express Entry Stream.
All online applications must be submitted with a $500 application fee.
Through the federal Express Entry system’s Express Entry stream, Alberta can suggest people who have already created profiles there. If you have connections with the region and have the qualifications to support its economic development, Alberta may extend an invitation to apply.
Candidates for Express Entry who receive an Alberta provincial nomination are given an additional 600 CRS points. If this is done, there is a good chance that an application for permanent residence will be requested in the upcoming Express Entry draw.
Only invitations are accepted for the Alberta Express Entry Stream. As part of the federal Express Entry system, Alberta will send Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to candidates who have Express Entry profiles. Invitations will then be extended to eligible candidates for consideration under this stream for a limited period of time. The AAIP will ask candidates to submit the necessary paperwork through the AAIP online portal in order to apply for provincial nomination if they are chosen.
