Express Entry High-Wage CRS Points: Who Gains in 2026?

Express Entry High-Wage CRS Points: Who Gains in 2026?

Last updated: 21 October 2026. The rules below are announced to take effect on 3 November 2026.

If you are planning Canada PR, the useful question is how many points your own profile could gain. Being a well-paid professional in India does not automatically qualify you for the new Express Entry points. The change focuses on eligible Canadian work experience and qualifying Canadian job offers.

This guide explains the calculation through examples. Our Express Entry reform news covers the announcement, while our Express Entry page explains the wider pathway.

The calculation: compare your Canadian experience score, including any qualifying high-wage addition, with your qualifying offer score. The higher result becomes your Labour Market Integration score. Its maximum includes existing experience points; it is not a universal 150-point increase.

Who could gain from the new CRS factor?

Candidates with eligible Canadian experience in listed high-wage occupations may gain an experience addition. Applicants with a qualifying offer in a listed occupation may also benefit, including those applying from India. An occupation on the list, without the required experience or offer, does not produce these points.

Applicants with Canadian experience outside the high-wage list continue to receive eligible duration points. Overseas experience alone does not earn this factor, although it can still matter for program eligibility and other CRS calculations. Receiving more points does not guarantee an invitation.

High-wage experience additions and offer points

IRCC occupation wage bandCanadian experience additionQualifying offer
At least 2 times the median70100
At least 1.5 but below 2 times4070
At least 1.3 but below 1.5 times2050

The experience addition requires at least 12 months of qualifying Canadian experience across the relevant occupations. The highest qualifying band applies. For example, six months in the top band plus six months in the middle band can meet the middle threshold, rather than the top threshold. Overtime and overlapping jobs cannot double the elapsed experience.

The factor can reach 150 points without an accompanying spouse or partner, or 140 with one. A qualifying offer can score up to 100. The experience and offer routes are compared rather than added.

Why the NOC matters more than your salary

IRCC assigns bands to occupations using Canadian median-wage data. Your individual salary does not set the band. The current list uses 2023-2025 data. Selected examples relevant to professional applicants are shown below; this is not the complete list.

NOCOccupationBand
10010Financial managersAt least 2 times
20012Computer and information systems managersAt least 2 times
21231Software engineers and designers1.5 to below 2 times
21300Civil engineers1.5 to below 2 times
31301Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses1.5 to below 2 times

The NOC should reflect your actual duties. A promotion title alone does not justify choosing a managerial code. If IRCC changes the occupation list after an invitation, it retains the level applicable on the invitation date.

Worked examples: the gain can be smaller than the offer score

These hypothetical examples isolate this factor and hold all other profile details unchanged. Two years of eligible Canadian work gives 53 duration points without an accompanying spouse. Five years gives 70 with an accompanying spouse.

No accompanying spouse; 2 years Canadian work, including 12 months in the middle band; no offer53 + 40 = 9340

What makes a Canadian offer qualify?

From 3 November, an LMIA will not be required for a qualifying Express Entry offer. Officers still assess whether the employer operates an active business, needs the position, can meet the offer's terms and complies with employment laws. They also assess your ability and intention to perform the work.

Generally, the offer must be written and provide full-time, continuous employment in Canada for at least one year after permanent residence. Skilled trades and certain publicly funded physicians have specific provisions. A work permit alone is not a job offer. An offer can meet program eligibility requirements yet earn no offer points if its occupation is outside the high-wage list.

Planning before 3 November

IRCC says existing profiles will be recalculated after the change, which may take up to two weeks, with invitation rounds paused during that recalculation. It has not promised a particular invitation date or cut-off. Accurate work dates, occupation duties and genuine offer details matter more than predictions.

For someone applying from India without qualifying Canadian experience or an offer, the new factor adds no points directly. A useful assessment should examine the whole profile rather than assume this closes the Express Entry route. Our CRS calculator supports initial planning. The examples above show how the announced factor differs from existing experience points.

Peerless Immigration Services can review your occupation selection, experience periods, offer terms and claimed points, then explain how the change fits your Canada PR plan. This is particularly useful where duties overlap NOCs, jobs overlap in time or an offer's eligibility is unclear.

Frequently asked questions

IRCC says it will recalculate existing profiles when the changes take effect on 3 November 2026. The process may take up to two weeks, and rounds will pause during it. A recalculation does not guarantee an invitation.

From 3 November, an LMIA is not required for a qualifying Express Entry job offer. The offer must still meet the applicable requirements, and offer points require an eligible high-wage occupation. Officers assess genuineness.

The experience addition requires qualifying Canadian work experience. Work performed in India does not meet that requirement just because the NOC is listed. An applicant outside Canada may separately qualify through an eligible Canadian offer.

The factor compares the experience and offer routes. Existing duration points are already part of the comparison. With 53 existing duration points, a selected offer score of 100 produces a 47-point increase in this factor, holding other details unchanged.

It generally means eligible skilled work performed in Canada within the preceding 10 years. Work authorisation, duties, hours and employment circumstances matter. Ordinary self-employment and full-time-study periods are excluded, with specific provisions for publicly funded physicians.

It is a planning tool provided by Peerless Immigration Services. IRCC assigns the score in your Express Entry profile and decides eligibility and applications. A calculator estimate does not approve an offer or guarantee permanent residence.
